Tribute paid to Essex teenager Dishone Lloyd who died at Burnside Lakes in Cherry Hinton
A headteacher has paid tribute to a 16-year-old who had a “bright future ahead of him” following his death at Burnside Lakes in Cherry Hinton.
Dishone Lloyd, 16, from Essex, died after reports he got into trouble while swimming with friends at the lakes.
A body was recovered by police on Tuesday last week after reports the teenager had got into difficulty around 5.30pm on Monday.
Matt Carter, headteacher at Mark Hall Academy in Harlow, Essex, said Dishone was not just a student but a “cherished member of our family and community”.
“He brought positivity and warmth to those who knew him, and his presence was felt throughout our academy. Dishone’s spirit, laughter, and enjoyment of life was enjoyed by us all,” he said.
Mr Carter continued: “He had just successfully completed his secondary education and had a bright future ahead of him, and the suddenness of this tragic loss is a stark reminder of just how precious and fragile life can be.
“In times like these, it is important that we come together to support one another. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to Dishone’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time. We stand with them, offering our love and support to help navigate this unimaginable grief.
“Dishone was a special pupil at Mark Hall Academy and his memory will act as a beacon and guiding light for us moving ahead, he will never be forgotten. With his family’s support and guidance, we will organise a memorial where we can celebrate his life, share memories, and his achievements.”
Mr Carter said the school was arranging counselling services for any student or staff member who needed someone to talk to. Dishone would have been due to collect his GCSE results on Thursday - and the school says support will be in place for those attending that day.
“Please know that we are here for the school community and that we will face this tragedy together. During this profound loss, let us remember Dishone for the light he brought into our lives, and let us support each other, particularly his loving family as they work through this painful time,” Mr Carter said.
