According to the Met Office, Cambridgeshire and the surrounding area can expect mid-week temperatures of up to 34 degrees.

Following temperatures of around 31 degrees over the next couple of days, the extreme hot weather is set to peak on Thursday, before dropping down to around 24 degrees on Friday.

It will be muggy overnight on Tuesday, with a chance of thunderstorms, and then hot and humid with further sunny spells on Wednesday.

The Met Office's forecast for Thursday is hot and humid again, but with a risk of showers spreading east later.

With this week predicted to be the hottest of the year, it is important to take the necessary precautions.

Remaining hydrated by drinking plenty of water is a must, and try and stay tuned to the weather forecast on the radio, TV or social media - or the Met Office - wherever possible.

Try and stay out of the sun between 11am and 3pm, identify the coolest room in the house, and wear loose, cool clothing, and a hat and sunglasses if you go outdoors.

If you're planning to travel, check the forecast at your destination.
