HGV driver critical and A428 closed after vehicle overturns on roundabout and spills 40 tonnes of grain




A man was left in a critical condition after the heavy goods vehicle he was driving collided with a roundabout and overturned, spilling 40 tonnes of grain and leading to a long closure on the A428.

The man in his 50s was taken to hospital with serious injuries after the incident at about 10.30am on Thursday (November 3), at the roundabout linking the A428 with the B1428 Cambridge Road near St Neots.

Police officers and paramedics attended the scene and the A428 was closed from about 11.15pm in both directions between the B1428 and B1043 Barford Road roundabout. The closure was extended along the A428 to the junction with A1198 Ermine Street South, near the Caxton Gibbet roundabout. Fuel was also spilt in the incident.

Witnesses have been asked to contact police via cambs.police.uk/report or call 101, quoting incident 160 of November 3 and asking to speak to the road policing unit.
