Households in the East top weekly spends for coffee and personal effects

Cambridgeshire and the wider region tops 'miscellaneous' expenditure, but what does that include?

National statistics have revealed the difference in spanding habits between people in the UK regions.

Average weekly spend in London was between £40 and £228 more than any other country and region, the figures, using data from the last three financial years, show.

Across the UK, the average weekly household expenditure for the last three full financial years was £527.20.

In the East, households topped the ‘miscellaneous’ category, with spending on personal effects at £6.40 per week (lowest spend Wales at £1.80) and social protection (financial assistance and services provided to those in need or at risk of hardship provided by central government, local authorities and private bodies) at £6.30 per week (lowest spend North East at £2.20).

The East also topped the lists for weekly coffee spend (£1) and package holidays in the UK (£2.20) among others.

Communication is the only category of spending where the percentage of total expenditure does not vary at all between regions – at 3 per cent.
