How Cherry Hinton Care Home made Carole’s wish for one last round of golf come true
When Cherry Hinton Care Home resident Carole expressed a wish to play one last round of golf, maintenance manager Barry Webb swung into action.
A keen golfer himself, Barry got in touch with Kingsway Golf Centre in Cambridge, which was delighted to offer Carole a complimentary round.
“After finding out that Carole was a golfer and played to a high standard in Australia, and it was her wish to have one last round, I wanted to make this dream come true for her,” said Barry.
Carole was accompanied by Barry, home manager Shelly Prakash and carer Leon Raju for an unforgettable day.
“It was an absolute honour to play golf with Carole and to see a massive smile on her face,” said Barry. “She proved to us if there is something you love doing, you never lose the ability – it’s like riding a bike!”
Shelly said: “I am incredibly moved by the collective effort that went into making Carole’s golfing wish come true. We believe in creating meaningful experiences for our residents, and this heartwarming story reminds us of the power of kindness and collaboration. We are immensely grateful to everyone involved.
“At Cherry, we always thrive to fulfil our resident’s wishes to come true. We successfully fulfilled several of our residents’ wishes as part of our wish tree project. It was a pleasure to see Carol playing golf after 30 years or so. She really enjoyed each and every moment. Thanks to Barry and Kingsway Golf Centre in Cambridge to make this happen. Our aim is to ensure that all our residents are able to have a meaningful life and enjoy things they used to enjoy in their past life.
