How next phase of Eddington could look as third consultation concludes
This is how the next phase of Eddington could look as the University of Cambridge continues to develop the new community.
The images were unveiled as a third round of consultation events took place on the next phase of developing the North West Cambridge site.
Eddington will eventually feature about 5,700 homes plus commercial spaces.
Some 1,800 of these were built or are under construction in the first phase. Up to half of the homes on site are for university key workers, including post-doctoral researchers.
In the next phase, which will feature a similar density of housing to the first, a mixture of town houses, maisonettes and flats are planned, ranging from two to six storeys, along with a handful of ‘landmark’ buildings of up to eight storeys.
Some 462 people attended the recent drop-in consultation events held at Storey’s Field Centre, Lion Yard shopping centre and the university’s West Hub to share the plans and gain feedback and a webinar was also held.
A spokesperson for the development said: “There were lots of meaningful and detailed conversations between the public and the university/wider project team about the development.
“The next steps are the team taking on board the feedback we have received before submitting the outline planning application this summer.
“We will then be holding public information sessions on the updated masterplan.”
Meanwhile, the first people have moved into Present Made Eddington, a £160million neighbourhood that is Cambridge’s first solely build-to-rent development.
Due to be completed later this year, it will feature 373 high-specification homes that are rated BREEAM Excellent for sustainability. The development features solar panels, urban drainage systems and underground waste systems, while more than 200 trees have been planted.
Featuring one and two-bedroom apartments and three and four-bedroom houses, Present Made’s development will also have an on-site gym and fitness studio, cinema rooms, co-working space and green spaces. Prices start at £1,900 a month.
Present Made operations director Anthony Lewis said: “We’re extremely proud of what we have created at Present Made and believe we are setting a new standard and laying the groundwork for an evolution within the rental market.”
Founded by investment manager Apache Capital, Eddington is Present Made’s first site, but it plans others around the country.
