In pictures: Christmas Toy Run is eight bikes short of all-time record
The roar of motorbike engines could be heard once again as presents were delivered to Addenbrooke’s Hospital as part of the annual Christmas Toy Run.
The journey to deliver toys by motorcycle via the Red Hen Project, which starts at La Pergola restaurant in Harlton, took place last Sunday (December 4).
Kayleigh Ackford, who organised the run, having taken over from the previous organiser and founder, Peter Vasey, said: “I believe it’s the 10th year. It’s just grown in size and popularity over the years. I participated in the run several times and helped Pete with a little bit of the organising.
“We were eight bikes off the record attendance this year, so for the first attempt and the first go at organising it, it was pretty spectacular – it wasn’t nerve-racking at all, much!”

There were 565 bikes taking part in total. “They were all different vehicles,” said Kayleigh. “There were motorbikes, trikes – there was even like a little Delboy car.”
She added that 20 sacks – the large tonne sandbags – were all filled with presents, 10 of which went to Addenbrooke’s while 10 went to the Red Hen Project.
