In pictures: Green team heads out on Star Shine Night Walk for Arthur Rank Hospice Charity

More than 400 people set the streets of Cambridge aglow at the Star Shine Night Walk 2024.

Organised by Arthur Rank Hospice Charity to raise funds for people in Cambridgeshire living with an advanced serious illness or other life-limiting condition – and for those who need end-of-life care – funds are still coming in.

Setting off from Shelford Rugby Club, participants walked the streets of Cambridge on Saturday (22 June), as the sun set on one of the longest days of the year.

Gina Thomas, events and challenge manager at Arthur Rank, said: “We had 450 walkers on the night and over 50 teams, a mixture of friends and family, and support groups as well.

“We had Star Radio DJ Andy Lake start the event, and our deputy CEO Sara Robins said a few words. And we’re up to now very close to raising £40,000, which is phenomenal, and that will hopefully continue to rise.”

She added: “Our youngest participant was 10 and our eldest was 82, so we had a real age range! And they came from far and wide as well.

“Most people are local to Cambridgeshire, but we had somebody from Aberdeen and we had somebody from Stockport.”

Every year, hundreds of local people walk in memory of their loved ones and raise funds for people supported by the hospice, with many walkers returning annually.

Participants can choose from a five or 10-mile option. The sponsors were Hamberley Care Homes, Cambridge Grove Care Home, venue partner Shelford Rugby Club, with media partner Star Radio.
