Investigation begins into Impington Village College fire
An investigation is under way into the cause of the fire at Impington Village College.
A skip fire and other rubbish went up in flames on Sunday night, and spread to a roofing compound. Cylinders exploded during the fire.
But principal Ryan Kelsall confirmed on Monday that the school was not badly affected.
He said: “Mr DiFranco and I, along with the site team, were in attendance and continue to support the fire and police services with their work.
“There is limited damage to the school buildings as the fire was confined to the roofers’ compound in the main. We will be working with our insurers to rectify any issues.
“Business as usual today (the ‘new normal’).”
No-one was hurt in the blaze, which crews from Cambridge, Cottenham, Sawston, Papworth, Huntingdon and St Ives at 10.24pm.
They had the fire under control by 1.10am and, after dampening the area, had left by 2am.
They returned later in the morning to reinspect the site ahead of today’s inspection.
