Taking place on Saturday, July 16, Liam will be taking on the challenge in memory of his sister Eileen. “We lost my sister, God rest her soul, 20 years ago in March next year,” he says, “and Macmillan Cancer Care is a really good charity.

“I wanted to just mark that occasion for my sister at the same time as seeing what we could do for the charity. They’re excellent and I think even more so in the pandemic.”

Although Liam, 56, tries to keep fit and regularly uses a rowing machine, he is not a rower. “I run and I do some cycling but I’ve definitely never done a row for 12 hours before,” he says. “I don’t know what to expect. I’ll have to have a couple of natural breaks, but I’m hoping it’ll be good.

“I think people take notice if it’s a bit of a challenge and it definitely is a challenge, so I thought I’d give it a try.”

Liam, who has tackled half marathons before, thanked Glassworks for hosting the challenge. He added: “Whatever people can give – however small – would be really appreciated. It’s an excellent charity and I’ve seen first hand what Macmillan does – not just for the cancer patients but for the families.”
