Cambridgeshire mum drops to her knees when learning of Postcode Lottery win
Tesco worker Kate Coleman was out when People’s Postcode Lottery came knocking in the village of Little Paxton last week.
Kate and neighbour Sasha Angell were contacted after winning £30,000 each when their postcode – PE19 6QX – was drawn as the winner of the prize on Sunday, March 19.
Incredulous Kate went to work, dismissing the call as a hoax. Meanwhile, People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador Danyl Johnson was paying a visit to her street, presenting neighbour Sasha with a gold envelope for £30,000.
Kate’s daughter received the cheque on her mum’s behalf and couldn’t wait to surprise her mum, filming her as she came through the door from work. See her incredible reaction to her £30,000 win here:
Completely bowled over, she dropped to her knees on seeing the cheque. Kate said “it’s been the best week ever. We were definitely having a takeaway for dinner after that!”
The mum-of-three had lots of plans for her winnings including a family holiday, a new bike for her husband, and a PlayStation 5 for her youngest son. She also said “my daughter wants to book a toilet and shower when she travels to Reading Festival. At first, she bought the ticket and couldn’t afford the rest so is excited about that now.”
It’s the second win for Kate’s neighbour, IT business analyst Sasha, whose previous address had already won her £1,000. Sasha was equally stunned when her cheque for £30,000 was revealed on her doorstep, saying: “It feels unreal. It’s unbelievable, it’s taking a while to settle in!”
Joined by her partner Robert, the pair were thrilled and said they’ll plan an all-inclusive holiday with their four children. Postcode Lottery ambassador Danyl Johnson said: “It was lovely meeting Sasha and Robert, and we were gutted we didn’t get to meet Kate on the day.
“We usually get to see the other side of the door when we visit our winners, so it was so fun peeking behind the scenes and her hilarious reaction to her win.”
Players of People’s Postcode Lottery have raised more than a billion pounds for thousands of charities and local good causes, including The Trussell Trust. With a centre in nearby Cambridge, The Trussell Trust has received more than £325,000 in funding thanks to players.
Every 13 seconds a food parcel is distributed to someone in need and Trussell Trust offer a lifeline to communities all over the country. This draw was promoted on behalf of Postcode International Trust.
