M11 near Cambridge to be closed at weekends for maintenance work




Parts of the M11 near Cambridge will be closed for four weekends while maintenance work is carried out to a bridge.

Highways England has advised motorists to plan-ahead if they need to use the M11 at the weekend from this Friday (October 30).

The work is taking place between junction 11 and 12, south of Cambridgeshire, on the bridge that carries the M11 over the River Cam.

Work on the northbound carriageway will be completed in the first two weeks before switching to the southbound side.

It means:

  • The M11 northbound between junction 11 and 12, will be closed closure from 8pm on Friday (October 30) to 6am on Monday (November 2) and 8pm on Friday, November 6, to 6am on Monday, November 9.
  • Northbound traffic will be diverted at junction 11, along the A10, A505/A1198 then onto the A603 before rejoining the M11 at junction 12
  • The M11 southbound between junction 12 and junction 11, will be closed from 8pm on Friday, November 13, to 6am on Monday, November 16, and 8pm on Friday, November 20, to 6am on Monday, November 23.
  • Southbound traffic will be diverted at junction 12, along the A603, A1198/ A505 then onto the A10 before rejoining the M11 at junction 11.

An additional weekend closure from November 27-30 is planned in case further time is required to finish the work. However, this will be cancelled if work is completed ahead of this weekend.

The work includes bridge joint repairs, resurfacing and relaying waterproofing material.
