Firefighters from Burwell, Soham and Cambridge, including the turntable ladder, along with crews from Newmarket in Suffolk, were called to the fire on North Street at 11.26pm on Saturday. The home had been evacuated by the time crews arrived.

Wearing breathing apparatus, they extinguished the fire using hose reels and returned to their stations by 2.45am.

Firefighters were also called to an accidental fire in the living room of a home in Lotfield Street in Orwell at 9.55pm last Thursday (January 19).

Crews from Cambridge, Gamlingay and Burwell found the fire well-developed when they arrived. They put it out with hose reels and a jet before returning to their stations by 1.15am.
