Milton Park & Ride service to resume this weekend

The Milton Park and Ride service will resume this weekend alongside the introduction of timetable changes to a number of routes.

Operator Stagecoach East announced the changes today (Thursday, June 17) following talks with local authorities and Cambridgeshire and Peterborough mayor Dr Nik Johnson.

The Milton Park and Ride service will resume on Sunday and will operate every 10 minutes seven days a week during the day and operate from a timetable after 6pm.

The service was temporarily suspended in May to allow Stagecoach to move resources to other routes that were experiencing capacity issues.

There will also be changes to the Citi 1 and Citi 2 routes in order to improve reliability and improved frequency to every 30 minutes on the 905 service, which runs between Cambridge and Bedford via St Neots.

Stagecoach will remove some duplicate school journey services in order to increase capacity during peak times on busier routes.

Darren Roe, managing director at Stagecoach East, said: “The changes will provide sufficient capacity across busy routes, improve service reliability and resume key services.

“We are always working to enhance our services and improve our bus network for the local people. As the country emerges from the lockdown, we will continue to support our communities by providing a safe and convenient mode of transport to help people stay connected and rediscover their local areas safely.”

Dr Johnson added: “I welcome the news from Stagecoach about the alterations they’re planning from this Sunday to improve the reliability of bus services and timetables across the area. It’s good to see that Stagecoach have listened to passengers about their concerns and have amended the timetable accordingly. It highlights the importance of both listening and co-operation.

“Creating more frequent services will hopefully encourage more people out of their cars and onto the bus. I’m particularly pleased to hear about the increase in frequency of the Route 905 service, a bus service that passengers in the St Neots area rely on, and that the Milton Park and Ride service is to start again too.”

He continued: “I look forward to working with Stagecoach and indeed the other local bus service

providers to improve the bus network across the region.”

Alterations will be made to the Citi 1 service Monday to Saturday journey times from Cambridge Rail Station into the city centre, and Arbury into the city centre. The Citi 2 service Monday to Sunday journey times and timing points will also be amended.

Passengers are advised that stops listed on the timetable in orange highlight that these timings are approximate.

Route amendments will be made to the number 13 service, so that all service 13s will use Worts Causeway towards the city centre from Monday to Friday during morning peak times (7.30am to 9.30am).

The number 18 service will also see a minor change to the timing point, between the City and Newham, Grantchester Road.

Other changes will be to the route 39 service Monday to Saturday timetable in order to improve the reliability of the service. Passengers are asked to check the timetable for specific journey time information.

The routes to be removed include:

  • Route 607 duplicate service at 7.36am from Trumpington Gazeley Road to Sawston Village College
  • Route 607 duplicate journey at 3.18pm from Sawston Village College to Gazeley Road
  • Route 18 duplicate service at 7.45am from Drummer Street to Comberton Village College
  • Route 18 duplicate journey at 3.12pm from Comberton Village College to Drummer Street.
