Emergency services were called to the G Webb Haulage depot at Mulberry Farm in Station Road at 1.40am on Wednesday morning (March 22) following reports of a fire and multiple explosions.

More than 20 firefighters attended the scene, where eight lorries, each containing 250-300 litres of diesel, were on fire.

Detectives are gathering CCTV footage and forensic evidence, and carrying out house to house enquiries.

Det Insp Verity McCann said: “I would like to hear from anyone who was in the Longstanton area in the lead up to the fire who may have seen or heard anything. Please contact police. Any information you have, however insignificant it may seem, could prove useful.”

The fire service confirmed the cause of the fire was deliberate and said crews from Cottenham, Cambridge, St Ives and Huntingdon, along with the water carrier from Ramsey, attended the incident.

They put out the fire using hose reels and jets before returning to their stations by 6am.
