Neil Thompson completes London to Cambridge walk for Romsey Mill

Neil Thompson, the fundraising and communications manager at Romsey Mill, has completed a continuous walk of more than 60 miles from London to Cambridge, helping to raise more than £7,500 for the Cambridge-based charity.

Neil called the two-day challenge, which included an overnight walk, his ‘60 4 60’ challenge, arriving at Romsey Mill Centre on his 60th birthday (Tuesday, 15 April).

Neil said: “My 60th birthday provided the ideal opportunity to do something special and help raise funds for Romsey Mill.

“Although it was a personal challenge, it was only possible because of the brilliant team I had to help me.

“My friend Simon walked every step of the way with me, and over 50 people joined me for shorter stretches of the walk.

“That’s fitting, because Romsey Mill’s work is all about ‘being with’ those who are dealing with disadvantage, as they overcome challenge in their lives.”

Neil’s original intention was to walk 60 miles from the site of his birthplace in Hammersmith to Romsey Mill Centre, but the final total distance walked was 69 miles, completed in just over 30 hours.
