The free exhibition, which took place over two floors at The Rowley Mile racecourse, welcomed 250 attendees and 90 exhibiting companies

Plenty of networking was done and many new connections made, in between seminars from, among others, Google Digital Garage, Spirus Marketing and iMET.

The event, organised by Cambridgeshire and Suffolk Chambers of Commerce and supported by the Cambridge Independent, included speed networking sessions and a host of stands, including one set up by the Cambridge Independent.

Property development and investment company Urban & Civic, whose projects in Cambridgeshire include Alconbury Weald – where 5,000 new homes are being built on a former Cold War airfield – were the main sponsors.

Exhibitors included the Quy Mill Hotel & Spa, Cambridge Regional College, Ellgia, Fitzwilliam College, the Royal Cambridge Hotel and R & D Consulting.

What the exhibitors and visitors said:

“It’s been a very good exhibition so far. Lots of interesting people, lots of good local business people – people around me seem to be enjoying it as well,” said Tim Rosamond, a freelance sales consultant for the Royal Cambridge Hotel. “I’ve not had the chance to see any of the seminars or the speed networking that’s taking place, due to the fact I’m on my own. Overall, good impression, when’s the next one?”

Andy Watt is in charge of the social media accounts at NHBC (The National House Building Council) and came to attend the Google seminars, one of which was on digital marketing and the other was on social media. “It’s quite interesting to have the information straight from the horse’s mouth,” he said. “You’ve got Google coming and actually giving you the spin on what to do, what not to do, and how to shape a business and develop a marketing plan using digital resources.”

“It’s generally been really good,” said Nicolle Halksworth, a marketing consultant who was there with her client, CKLG Accountants. “There’s a nice atmosphere; we’re here with our cakes and our juice and we’ve been talking to quite a lot of different companies. It’s been going well so far; we’ve got a few people here representing CKLG Accountants, from the private clients side, as well as the business accountancy side of the company. They’ve been talking to the other exhibitors here and networking.”

Rachel Housden is a recruitment consultant at Busy Bee Recruitment. “It’s gone really well so far,” she said. “Not as many visitors as we thought, but it’s been a really good day – we’ve really enjoyed it.”
