New police station in Milton ‘about 30 per cent complete’

This drone photograph shows progress on the new police station under construction in Milton, which is now expected to be completed next spring.

Being built beside the Park & Ride site, the station is costing around £45m, doubles the amount of custody cells available for the Cambridge area from 12 to 24 and will provide a base for around 400 officers.

The new station will effectively replace Parkside police station in central Cambridge at the force’s main hub and custody suite for the south of the county.

It was hoped it would be open by November 2025, but that timeline has slipped.

“We’re about 30 per cent through the build now and it is hoped to open in spring 2026,” a force spokesperson told the Cambridge Independent this week.

Parkside police station, which was built in the 1960s, is considered by the force to have reached the end of its life and refurbishment to modern standards was considered too expensive. It is not yet clear what will happen to the site, but the force has insisted that even when the station in Milton opens, it will retain a city centre presence.
