Open Wednesdays from 12-4pm, the team expects people to want to leave suitcases, musical instruments and documents.

Lis Silver, CEO of It Takes a City, said: “This project is important for people who have nowhere safe to store important belongings – it provides an opportunity for someone to know that their possessions will be kept secure and in suitable conditions until they are able to collect them and take them to their new accommodation.

“The goal of the project is to eliminate the ever present fear when you have nowhere safe to live that your belongings will become damaged or be stolen or disposed of. Things like mementoes or photos of loved ones are irreplaceable and this project gives dignity to people living on the streets. In addition people experiencing homelessness are forced to carry around everything that they own and the project will enable them to safely store some of their clothing and personal items.

“Changes like this are important for their health and enables them to get on with day to day activities.”

A spokesperson for Pickfords said: “Pickfords is delighted to partner with ITAC in this important local project to support the homeless in Cambridge. This project will really make a difference to the day-to-day struggles faced by vulnerable people in our community.”
