Number of Covid-19 patients admitted daily to Addenbrooke’s falls to single figures
The number of Covid-19 patients being admitted daily to Addenbrooke’s Hospital has dropped to its lowest level since November 2021.
Just two were admitted on May 22 and the number of daily admissions was in single figures each day from May 13-22, latest figures show.
In total, the Cambridge hospital admitted 30 Covid-19 patients in the week to May 22, and had 27 on its wards on May 24, with three in ventilation beds.
Meanwhile, Royal Papworth Hospital had just one patient with Covid-19 on its wards on May 24, who was in a ventilation bed.
In the community, confirmed number of cases continue to decline, according to official figures, but these mask the true level of infection as the number of tests being reported has also declined greatly since the lifting of restrictions and ending of free universal testing.
Across Cambridgeshire, the results of 1,967 virus tests - both PCR and lateral flow tests - were reported on May 26. Towards the end of March, prior to the ending of free testing, more than 10,000 tests were typically being reported daily.
