Parking charges to be introduced at Lammas Land
Pay and display parking charges are to be introduced at Lammas Land car park to promote shorter stays and encourage people to access the park on foot, by bike or using public transport.
Charges will be introduced from Monday, July 15 at the car park, which is owned and managed by Cambridge City Council.
The car park, next to the popular open space, playground and paddling pool at Lammas Land, has been free to use.
This has meant that some people have used the car park to access the city centre.
It is hoped that visitors to Lammas Land will now use Park & Ride services.
A total of 76 parking spaces, including allocated disabled and parent/child spaces and spaces for motorcycles will still be available for those who require them, with three hours’ free parking for disabled badge holders.
Opening hours in the summer from April 1 to October 31 will be 8am-10pm. Opening hours in the winter period from November 1 to March 31 will be 8am-4pm. The maximum stay will be eight hours from Monday to Friday and five hours on Saturday and Sunday.
Cllr Katie Thornburrow, executive councillor for planning policy and open spaces, said: “In setting car parking charges we have to balance a variety of sometimes conflicting aims.
“Introducing reasonable charges at this small but sometimes busy car park in a popular destination is a necessary step. It will play a part in helping reduce Cambridge’s carbon footprint and traffic congestion, and improving air quality, which are among our overriding priorities in the years to come.
“However, people who still need to use their cars, particularly disabled people and those with young children will still have the opportunity to park right next to Lammas Land’s excellent facilities which are valued by so many residents and visitors.”
The new charges for using the Lammas Land car park will be as follows:
Duration Mon-Fri Sat-Sun
Up to 2 hours £2 £2
Up to 4 hours £5 £4.80
Up to 5 hours £10 £9
Up to 8 hours £20 N/A
