Pay and display parking charges in Cambridge set to rise

Increased charges at Cambridgeshire County Council’s pay and display car parks will come into effect on Monday, February 20.

The county council says the price increase is due to the extra costs being incurred because of inflation.

The pay and display car parking charges at certain locations throughout Cambridge will increase by between 10p and 20p.

The rises will help to cover the day-to-day running of parking services and contractor enforcement costs.

The change in charges will only affect pay and display in the city and Shire Hall car park.

Other options, such as the Guided Busway and the Park and Ride sites, will not be impacted by the increase.

Cllr Neil Shailer, vice chair of the council’s highways and transport committee, said: “We haven’t increased our parking charges since 2021 and have tried hard not to change these, but we need to cover some of the costs due to inflation. There are other alternatives available to some people, such as walking, cycling, or taking public transport.

“We also have the Guided Busway and Park and Ride services, which I know many people already use. They’re an easy alternative way to get into Cambridge. If you’ve never used these services, then now is a good time to give them a try.”
