Some of the detailed plans to redevelop the Old Press/Mill Lane area of Cambridge will be on show today (September 20) and Friday (September 21) allowing people the chance to share their views.

Pembroke College, along with the University of Cambridge, Darwin and Queens’ colleges, wants to redevelop the area, adding student accommodation, teaching and learning space and opening up new public space.

The plans which form the exhibition are for the southern part of the site, the area between Mill Lane and Little St Mary’s Lane. Further plans are being developed for the area north of Mill Lane up to Silver Street.

Andrew Cates, bursar of Pembroke College, said: “Together, the new and refurbished buildings will deliver a range of versatile spaces and accommodation that will ensure Pembroke continues to develop as a focus of intellectual and cultural excellence at the heart of Cambridge. Our proposals also provide the college with an opportunity to make the area more accessible to the local community through the creation of new public facilities including a lecture and performance space, foyer and gallery.

“We’re keen to hear people’s views before we finalise our plans and submit a planning application to Cambridge City Council and would like to encourage people to come along to the exhibitions to find out more and give us their feedback.”

The exhibition starts today (Thursday) between 3pm and 7pm in the Old Library at Pembroke College. It continues on Friday between 2pm and 5pm.

The information will also be available online at pembroke-consultation.co.uk from Thursday. Views can to be submitted up until October 17 by emailing enquiries@pembroke-consultation.co.uk.
