Plan to demolish Beefeater restaurant at Premier Inn in Cambridge to ensure ‘future viability’ of hotel

Owners of a Premier Inn in Cambridge are looking to demolish the hotel’s restaurant in order to build more than 20 new bedrooms.

Plans have been put forward to demolish the Beefeater restaurant in Huntingdon Road to make way for a two-storey extension to the hotel.

Premier Inn Hotels Ltd said the hotel was seeing “considerable demand” for rooms whereas the restaurant was seeing a “shortfall” in demand.

The hotel currently has 36 rooms, but the owners would like to build 28 new rooms in the proposed extension.

The owners of the hotel said three bedrooms within the existing hotel would be converted to create a new restaurant, if permission was granted to demolish the Beefeater. This would take the total number of rooms to 61.

In the plans, submitted to Cambridge City Council, it said: “Premier Inn has identified a considerable demand for additional hotel accommodation in this location.

“Equally, the existing hotel restaurant has shown a continued shortfall in demand.

“The applicant therefore seeks to reconfigure the hotel bedroom and restaurant offer on the site to ensure its success and future viability.”
