The site in Coldhams Road can now be used as industrial space and a new warehouse is planned to be built on the site.

The former snooker and pool centre closed in 2019, and a representative of the building’s owners told councillors at a Cambridge City Council planning committee meeting earlier today (Wednesday, November 2) that the club had been in decline for some years.

He said: “Times are changing and when the time changes this conversion from the snooker club to warehouses is much more suitable in this location, as it is in an industrial area. It will allow the area to be more functional and more viable.”

He added that there were other snooker and pool clubs in the city.

Alongside the former snooker club there is also currently one house in the middle of the site. Under the plans this will be demolished to make way for a new warehouse. Councillors noted that it was a “random” location for a house.

Cllr Dave Baigent (Lab, Romsey) said some people had come to him concerned about the change of use, but said once he had spoken to them he found many had not used the snooker club in years.

He added that it was “a bit out of the way for 21st century people to go and play snooker” and said that more warehouse space was needed in the city.

When put to a vote, the committee councillors voted unanimously to approve the plans.
