He used a ladder to get to the first floor, where he smashed a window to get inside. Ross then threw a rucksack containing coins to his accomplice outside before both fled.

Ross was arrested the following day at a property in Darwin Court, Cambridge, where officers found some of the coins and casing used to display them.

Leading up to the burglary, Ross stole items worth hundreds of pounds from supermarkets in Cambridge.

Ross, of Hawkins Road, Cambridge, admitted burglary and seven counts of theft. On Thursday (17 April) at Peterborough Crown Court he was jailed for 30 months.

PC Andy Smith said: “The burglary was devastating for the business owner and has had a long-lasting impact on them. I’m pleased Ross has now been jailed for his actions.”
