Protester in court following demonstration at Cambridge Shell garage

A Cambridge woman has been ordered to pay compensation following an Extinction Rebellion protest in February at a city petrol station.

Mahoney Goodman, 21, of Long Reach Road, appeared at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (September 15) where she pleaded guilty to obstructing/disrupting persons engaged in lawful activity.

On February 21 she climbed onto the roof of the Shell garage in Newnham Road and refused to leave, causing the business to have to close.

She was ordered to pay £100 in compensation.

XR Youth protesters set up a blockade at the garage, preventing cars from entering the site.

Some climbed on top of the station's canopy.
