Pupils met Cambridge MP Daniel Zeichner, along with representatives from fruit and vegetable supplier Minor, Weir and Willis, to discuss nutritious snacks last Friday (September 30), as part of British Food Fortnight – a scheme promoting healthy eating.

Mr Zeichner said: “From apples and aubergines, to strawberries and shallots, to turnips and tomatoes, our country produces a whopping 3.5 million tonnes of fruit and veg every year. A huge amount of that is grown on the fertile fields of Cambridgeshire and the Fens.

“We all know a healthy diet is vital to give local children the very best start in life. Fruit and veg, jam-packed with vitamins, minerals and fibre, are crucial. But with a crippling cost of living crisis many local families are struggling to afford the basics which makes this scheme all the more important.”
