Reopening of Chesterton Post Office welcomed

Chesterton Post Office has reopened after the recruitment of a temporary postmaster.

The branch at 50 High Street closed suddenly on January 18 due to “operational issues” and there was uncertainty over its future.

Cambridge’s Labour MP Daniel Zeichner said: “The closure of the Chesterton Post Office was a serious blow to the community and to the people it served and I was very concerned to hear about this sudden and abrupt closure. I am delighted that the Post Office recognised the urgency of finding a new postmaster and has done so quickly.”

Cllrs Gerri Bird and Baiju Thittala Varkey and local activist Alice Gilderdale said: “As local councillors and activists we’ve been working with our local Labour MP to get this community post office reopened. It’s vital to have local services which are accessible for residents, both close to their homes but also for residents to visit in person. We’d like to thank the Post Office team for all their hard work for the local community.”
