Royal visit: All the places the Queen will go in Cambridge today
The Queen is coming to Cambridge today to officially open the new Royal Papworth Hospital.
This morning she will begin her tour of the city at the National Institute of Agricultural Botany, followed by lunch at Queens’ College.
Then she will head to the brand new Royal Papworth Hospital, accompanied by the Duchess of Gloucester, to officially open the state of the art building.
The Cambridge Independent will be reporting from the royal visit and will share photos of the day online and in tomorrow’s newspaper (Wednesday, July 10)
Professor John Wallwork, Chairman of Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, said: “It will be a huge honour to welcome Her Majesty to our hospital.”
He added: “We are all very excited to show off our fantastic new building and demonstrate the amazing levels of care our patients receive.”
And Stephen Posey, Chief Executive of the trust, said: ““The visit of Her Majesty will be a wonderful opportunity to showcase what we have achieved and we are all very much looking forward to the day.”
More than 9,000 patients have been through the outpatients department and clinicians have carried out more than 2,000 procedures since the hospital opened on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus in May.
The visit follows the hospital receiving a royal title to become Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in 2017.
