Self-service dog wash opens at Milton Country Park
Pampered pooches have been enjoying the latest installation at Milton Country Park - a self service dog wash to clean off those muddy paws after a walk in the woods.
The new doggy shower unit offers a space for owners to wash and dry their pets before allowing them back home - saving cars and houses from dirty footprints. For just £3, dogs can have a wash and blow dry, including conditioner or a flea treatment. The front of the shower unit opens to let the dogs in and owners can clip them in place - so they don't jump about - and then choose their wash. They come out fresh and fluffy after even the filthiest walk. The price has been set to cover expenses but is not making any profit for the park.
Sarah Harris, project manager at Cambridge Sport Lakes Trust, which runs Milton Country Park, said: “The self-service dog wash was suggested to us by a cafe manager who had seen it in one of his other locations, and just saw how popular it was. I think people struggle to take dogs to the groomers and this is just a really nice way of getting your dog nice and clean without having to do it in your own house. And it's not a money making thing for us. We've just thought it was a really fun addition to the park and a really clever idea.
“People have already been saying that now they know it is there they will bring their dogs out deliberately just to use the machine. We just want to make it clear that it is not for swimmers, kids or bikes!”
So far, business is booming and the pets seem just as happy as their owners with the results.
