Slimming World to collect for Cancer Research UK at Milton Park & Ride
A Big Slimming World Clothes Throw event, running in Slimming World groups from April 16-29, will be coming to Milton Park & Ride in Cambridge this Saturday (April 22).
As part of Slimming World’s ongoing partnership with Cancer Research UK, the weight loss organisation is inviting members to bag up any clothes that they’ve slimmed out of and bring them along, from 11am-2pm. The donated clothes will then be given to the Cancer Research UK shop, to help raise much-needed funds for the charity.
Dawn Sonnino, Slimming World consultant, said: “What we do every year at Slimming World, we ask members to bring in their clothes that they’ve slimmed out of. I think this is the ninth year, and in the last eight years we’ve helped raise £18million for cancer research and this year what we’re trying to do is get it up to £20million.”
Dawn says a lorry will come and pick everything up at around 2.30pm – “and usually every bag is about £25, so obviously the more people we can get dropping stuff off, the more money we’re going to make.”
Any items are welcome, not just clothes from Slimming World members. Dawn said: “Furniture’s the only thing that we can’t take obviously, but anything else… so it can be ornaments, kids’ clothes, bags, shoes, anything like that.”
There will be two gazebos up at the site and there will be food. “It’s actually National Picnic Day on Saturday,” explained Dawn, “so we’re having one [gazebo] that’s got food in and one that we’re going to put the donations in.”
