St Neots striker Jevani Brown makes switch to Cambridge United

U's make swoop for hot prospect

Jevani Brown has made the step up from non-League to sign for Cambridge United.

The 22-year-old striker has signed a two-year deal for the U’s having impressed in training with the first team and in pre-season matches this summer.

Brown began his career as a youngster with Peterborough United, before switching to a number of non-league clubs in Barton Rovers, Arlesey Town, Wingate & Finchley, Kettering Town and St Neots.

He also had a trial at Championship club Birmingham City last season.

“Now that the deal is sorted my mindset has changed and I want to work just as hard at getting a place in the team as soon as possible,” said Brown.

“Having met all my team mates during the trial, I know how competitive it will be to earn a place in the squad, but I’m looking forward to it.

“Even before my time here I knew a few of the players already, but all of them have welcomed me into the squad brilliantly during pre-season and now that I am here, I couldn’t be any happier.

“This club is fantastic at giving young men opportunities in the game and for me personally Cambridge United have provided me with a chance to test myself in the Football League and I can’t wait to get started.”

United head coach Shaun Derry said: “We’re delighted to welcome Jevani back to Cambridge United.

“Having joined us for the majority of pre-season and played against different types of opposition, he’s made a real positive impression on all of our staff.

“Technically he can more than hold his own within the group and he gives us further options in an attacking sense.”

And United head of football operations Ben Strang added: “Jevani joins us at an exciting time in his career, at 22 and having scored 19 goals in 20 games in the second half of last season at St Neots.

“It’s vital that we have a constant awareness of players performing well locally in non-league. We have a great relationship with St Neots and I’d like to thank Lee Kearns, Iain Parr and Matt Clements for their support and part in Jevani’s development.

“He has plenty to learn but has undoubted ability and we are excited by his potential.”

Meanwhile, United striker Adam McGurk has been placed on the transfer list.
