Storm Doris: Train services cancelled and road disruptions as 27 trees come down across Cambridgeshire

South Cambs Police have advised drivers to avoid the A428 between Cambourne and St Neots due to a fallen tree in the road.
Windy conditions across Cambridgeshire today, February 23, caused three road traffic incidents involving a double decker bus, vans and lorries - all requiring the assistance of the Magpas Air Ambulance enhanced medical team.
Greater Anglia has said that due to plastic sheeting caught on the overhead electric wires between Bishop's Stortford and Cambridge all lines are blocked.
Train services running through these stations have been cancelled. Disruption is expected until 7.00pm.
Storm Doris has caused road disruption due to several felled trees in and around Cambridge. A tree in Midsummer Common has fallen onto the road in the centre of Cambridge. A tree has also reportedly fallen onto a car in Victoria Road closing the road both ways.
The Cambridge University DTG Weather Station recorded wind speeds of 50 knots (57mph) at 1.30pm.
Gusts of up to 70 miles per hour are expected on some roads, along with heavy rain and surface water. There is a particularly high risk to high-sided vehicles, caravans and motorbikes on exposed sections of the network.
Drivers of these vehicles are being strongly advised to avoid travelling on around 40 stretches of motorway and major A road while the alert is in place.
The M11 is closed between junction 8 (Bishop's Stortford/Stansted) and junction 10 (Duxford) due to a serious multi-vehicle accident. The A14 sliproad to Milton is also causing disruption due to a fallen tree.
Both lanes of the A428 between Cambourne and St Neots are closed after a tree came down across both carriageways. South Cambs Police said eight HGV lorry drivers helped to push the tree from the road.
Due to the high winds from Storm Doris causing dangerous conditions, the following Household Recycling Centres will be closed from 12pm today for the rest of today:

Whittlesey

Wisbech
Alconbury
Milton Country Park is also closed and drivers are being urged to be prepared before setting out on journeys.
