The Year of the Snake – join in the Chinese New Year celebrations at Lion Yard




Lion Yard is delighted to announce its partnership with the Cambridge Chinese Cultural School to host the city’s primary Chinese New Year celebrations for 2025, marking the Year of the Snake.

All activities will take place in Lion Yard’s main atrium and will be free for everyone to enjoy. The celebrations, which began on Saturday, 25 January, and run through to Sunday, 2 February, feature a 50-foot giant snake installation alongside a vibrant programme of events. Highlights include lantern-making workshops, traditional Chinese Lion dances, children’s Lion dance workshops, Chinese horoscope readings, merchandise stalls, and much more.

Ross Hargrove, centre manager at Lion Yard, said: “We are thrilled to host the Chinese New Year celebrations once again, working closely with Cambridge’s Chinese community.

“This promises to be a week filled with colour, culture, and exciting entertainment. It also marks the beginning of an exciting year for Lion Yard, with the anticipated openings of Shake Shack and Pure Seoul adding to our dynamic offering.”

Andy Tse, director of the Cambridge Chinese Cultural School, added: “We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Lion Yard shopping centre for their generous support in helping us bring this special celebration to life.

“We invite everyone to join us in experiencing the joy and traditions of Chinese New Year.”
