Thief who targeted Mackays in Cambridge part of gang stealing power tools
A 29-year-old man who targeted a Cambridge store to steal power tools has been handed a suspended prison sentence.
Stephen Myres broke into Mackays of Cambridge in East Road on 1 March last year and stole Makita and Dewalt drills worth more than £2,000.
Myres also took hand tools from Travis Perkins in St Peters Road, Huntingdon on 23 August and power tools from Jewson in Kent in January last year.
At Milton Keynes Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (11 March), Myres was sentenced to six months in prison, suspended for 18 months, and given a four-month curfew to remain at his home in Winslow Road, Nash, Milton Keynes, between 9pm and 7am.
He must undergo a nine-month drug rehabilitation requirement and a 12-month alcohol treatment requirement. He must also pay £2,144 to Mackays, £62.92 to Travis Perkins and £700 to Jewson in compensation.
PC Sarah Pride, from the Cambridge neighbourhood team, said: “Myres was part of a gang targeting shops for their power tools. Thanks to CCTV, he has been identified and put before the courts.
“We hope this outcome provides some reassurance to those shops targeted.”
