Third phase of consultation on Eddington development launched by University of Cambridge

The third round of public consultation on the future phases of the Eddington development will begin on Thursday (27 March).

The University of Cambridge says feedback from five drop-in sessions and a webinar will inform the updated masterplan for the site, which will be submitted as an outline planning application later this year.

Images and a 3D model will set out the vision for the rest of the development, which will eventually feature 5,700 homes – up to half of which will be for university key workers and post-doctoral researchers – plus commercial spaces. Some 1,800 have already been built or are under construction.

Housing density will be similar to the first phase, the university says, with a mixture of town houses, maisonettes and flats, and buildings ranging from two to six storeys, plus a handful of landmark buildings up to eight storeys, integrated with 50ha of open space.

Building heights will decrease towards the edge of the site, and roof designs will vary.

Shared gardens for community living are part of the plans, while additional sports pitches and community growing plots, as well as facilities like running routes and BMX tracks, are expected. The health centre, built in the first phase, will shortly be fitted out by the NHS with services expected to be provided on site within two years, subject to agreements.

Matt Johnson, head of development for North West Cambridge at the University of Cambridge, said: “At this third public consultation, we’re looking forward to showing how we have developed our masterplan by taking onboard the feedback we have received in the first and second rounds last year.

“We’re also excited to show the community CGIs and a 3D model which indicate how Eddington’s future phases may look. If you have any questions or comments, please attend one of our events across the city.”
