A new global events company has been launched by the founder of the Cambridge Roar charity festival.

Tony Murdock, director and general manager at Quy Mill Hotel and Spa, which is home to the Roar, established TR Global Events to deliver event creation, planning, logistics and management.

Quy Mill, in Stow-cum-Quy, will be the headquarters for TR Global Events. Other offices are being opened in Nottingham, Florida and San Francisco.

Tony told the Cambridge Independent: “TR Global Events has been born out of the Cambridge Roar, to take what we do for charity into a commercial entity. TR stands for The Roar.

“First and foremost we’ll promote events here at Quy Mill. But what we’ve found when we’ve quoted for events is that some people like a city centre venue so we want to give them an option of venue-finding.

“We can do everything from the design and creation of the event, through planning and management on the day, week or whatever it might be.

“We want to bring more business into Cambridge and the American market coming into the UK is huge, so we have offices in San Francisco and Florida, covering the east and west coasts.”

A sales and marketing consultant in the United States will take bookings for conferences in the UK but could also help arrange events stateside.

Tony, who is MD of the new company, is joined by directors Gary Winter and Steve Warren.

Gary is an experienced event manager and a jazz singer. He is the founder and director of Norwich-based event production company Allseason Productions. Gary is also event manager for the Cambridge Roar.

Steve Warren is the managing director of innovative Nottingham-based design agency Creative Minds and has also worked on the Cambridge Roar. He has almost 30 years of experience working in the creative industries, and has founded and run several companies.

Tony said: “It’s been an amazing few months getting all our information ready and the team lined up for the launch of this new business. With the vast amount of experience, energy and creativity the team bring to the table, I believe that we can truly excite the event industry with what we offer.

“Our fundamental goal is to take an idea or a wish and make it a reality, creating an everlasting experience for our clients, whether it’s an event for the corporate world or a more intimate, personal affair.”

The company is looking to organise everything from large-scale business events – including team-building days, conferences, trade shows and exhibitions – to more intimate affairs such as weddings and birthday parties.

The announcement of TR Global Events’ launch came at a B2B event at Quy Mill that formed part of the Cambridge Roar festival, which resumes in September with further events. The festival has been a big part of Quy Mill’s rise to prominence in recent years and will continue.

“When we first started Cambridge Roar, people used to say they had been to a wedding at Quy Mill and hadn’t been since.

“Now the footfall through the hotel is huge and everybody knows Quy Mill, either through what we’ve done with it or through the Cambridge Roar,” said Tony, who joined the hotel in 2013.

He has steered it to achieving AA 4-star status, an Investors in People award and, most recently, the prestigious AA 4-star silver status – the only hotel in Cambridgeshire to boast the accolade.

“The hotel is in the best position it has been. We have a silver star and business is very strong. These events will make an even bigger difference,” said Tony, who began his career in hospitality and events in Belfast almost 20 years ago and has since managed several 4-star hotels in Ireland, Scotland and England.

Time now, then, to go global.
