Travellers leave RN51 pathway off Ditton Lane in Cambridge

It’s business as usual on the RN51 following the departure of a convoy of Travellers who had parked up by the pedestrian/cycle path that leads from the villages into the north-east of Cambridge.

The stretch of the RN51 leads away from the city to Stow-cum-Quy. It then proceeds through Bury St Edmunds and into Ipswich before concluding at Felixstowe.

The only reminder of the encampment at the site today (Sunday) were some tied bin bags and a large plastic petrol holder - though a path through the woods nearby was strewn with what looked like used toilet paper.

In addition, there was minor damage to the pathway at the junction of Fison Road and Ditton Lane, which was the point of entry for the dozen or so vehicles including cars, a motorhome and caravans.

The owner of the land, Hill Marshall LLP, served an enforcement notice against the vehicles shortly after the Travellers arrived in late October.

A spokesperson from Hill Marshall LLP said: “We would like to thank the community for their patience and understanding in this matter. The area has now been secured.”
