Update: Man in his 30s dies in A14 crash

Two people have been seriously injured after a collision between a car and a van on the A14 in Cambridgeshire.

Traffic report services suggested the car overturned and caught fire.

The road was closed eastbound between J21 and J24B near Godmanchester following the crash, which happened at about 2.30am.

A police spokesperson said: “We were called at about 2.30am today (August 2) with reports of a serious collision on the eastbound carriageway of the A14 near Godmanchester.

“Officers, paramedics and fire crews all attended the scene of the collision.

“Two people who were in the car have been seriously injured. The road has been closed.

“Anyone who witnessed the collision should call police on 101 or visit www.cambs.police.uk/report quoting incident 46 of 2 August.”

National Highways said traffic officers were also on the scene and the road was closed for collision investigations and emergency resurfacing.

At 8.30am, National Highways tweeted: “The A14 eastbound between J21-J24B remains closed following an earlier serious collision. Police remain at scene and are completing collision investigation. There are 30-minute delays on the approach to the closure from J18 so please allow extra time for your journey.”

A diversion route has been put in placed for motorists heading eastbound:

  • Exit the A14 at J21 and take the A141 eastbound to the Brampton Hut A1 junction.
  • Then joining the A1 southbound, proceed to Wyboston junction A428.
  • Leaving the A1 at Wyboston junction, take the A428 eastbound where traffic can either proceed to the A14 or M11. For the M11, leaving the A428 for the A1303 to M11 J13 (for M11 south). For traffic wishing to re-join the A14, remaining on the A428 eastbound will route traffic to A14 J31 at Girton.
