Voi launches new online e-scooter and e-bike safety training
Voi has launched a new, free online traffic school - RideSafe Academy - to help people use e-scooters and e-bikes safely.
The all-new RideSafe Academy provides a series of online micro courses that teach essential knowledge and helpful tips on e-scooter and e-bike traffic rules and rider safety. Riders are rewarded with a free ride as an incentive to take the free online training.
The launch comes just weeks after it emerged that more than 150 injuries related to e-scooters have been seen by doctors at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in the last year alone.
Malcolm Cameron said as the popularity of e-scooters rises, so does the prospect of broken bones and head injuries after appearing on a new TV series, The Face Doctors.
Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, Dr Nik Johnson, said: “These free courses can make you and others safer, while also increasing confidence while riding. I’d encourage anyone to sign up for the training.”
The academy builds on the success of the company’s previous traffic school RideLikeVoila, which was the world’s first e-scooter traffic school, launched by Voi in 2019.
RideSafe Academy offers a new, improved comprehensive safety education platform that equips riders with essential knowledge and practical tips to ride e-scooters and e-bikes safely and confidently.
It is designed to be an accessible and engaging platform for riders of all levels of experience. It is also freely available to anyone interested in improving their riding skills or simply learning more about local traffic laws, whether or not they are a Voi rider.
James Bolton, Voi general manager UK, said: “By offering a free and accessible platform to learn about e-scooter and e-bike safety and traffic rules, we are empowering our riders to make safer choices and contribute to safer streets for everyone.
“With RideSafe Academy, we aim to set a new standard for the micro-mobility industry, emphasising the importance of education in creating a more responsible and sustainable urban future.
“I hope it gives even more people the confidence to use an e-scooter or e-bike as a great way to get around without causing congestion or pollution.”
Voi monitors its operations and irresponsible or unsafe use is enforced with user bans. The company says that incidents of bad riding practices are “well managed” and just 0.02 per cent of total Voi account holders (UK-wide) have been blocked.
Unsafe riding or inappropriate use of Voi e-scooters can be reported to report.voi.com via the Voi app or website.
