Voters reminded to bring photo ID for Cambridge City Council by-election

Voters will head to the polls on Thursday (12 September) for a by-election in the Cambridge City Council ward of Romsey.

The by-election was called following the resignation of independent Romsey councillor Mairéad Healy, who was previously a Labour councillor.

The by-election will be contested by four candidates. Beth Gardiner-Smith is standing for Labour, Zak Karimjee is representing the Green Party, Rob Nelson is standing for the Conservative and Unionist Party, and John Walmsley is representing the Liberal Democrats.

Those intending to vote in person are reminded that they will need to show a valid photographic ID.

Original documents must be provided as photocopies or copies of images on mobile phones or other electronic devices will not be accepted.

People can use acceptable photo ID even if it has expired.

Polling stations will be open in Romsey at 7am-10pm. For this election only, voters who would normally vote at the Romsey Mill polling station will be required to cast their vote at Mill Road Baptist Church.

Vicky Jenner, deputy returning officer, said: “Remember you’ll need to bring a valid form of photo ID in order to vote in person – and if you have any questions or need any assistance while you are at the polling station, just ask a member of staff who will be happy to help.”
