Watch terrifying moment lorry veers across wrong side of the road, smashes car and narrowly misses petrol station on A505 at Duxford
This is the shocking moment a lorry veered into the opposite carriageway of the A505 at Duxford, smashing one car on its way and narrowly avoiding another as it careered past a petrol station.
The lorry took out a telephone interchange box and telegraph poles before ending up in a ditch in woodland - yet remarkably no-one was injured.
Unconfirmed reports on social media suggest the lorry driver had choked on food and passed out.
The terrifying incident on Friday was captured on dashcam footage by an oncoming driver, who was heading along the road and approaching the BP garage, near the Imperial War Museum.
This footage, originally posted to the Spotted in Duxford Facebook page , shows the lorry smashing one car - a second is thought to have been clipped as well - and the lights going out at the garage as the lorry heads off the road.
The driver managed to brake in time as the lorry crossed in front of him.
A Cambridgeshire police spokesperson said: “We were called at just after 4.15pm on Friday (October 16) to reports of collision involving a lorry and two cars in Royston Road, Duxford.
“The lorry then careered into a ditch causing damage to a number of telegraph poles. Officers attended and the road was closed while the lorry was recovered. No one was injured as a result.”
Police were unable to comment on speculation that the driver was choking on food, but confirmed no-one had been arrested.
The incident left those on the Heathfield estate in Duxford without phone and internet access - at a time when many are reliant on it to work from home.
And the lorry narrowly missed damaging Bailey Bridge, which underwent scheduled repair work at the weekend.
