Plans to move Waterbeach railway station have been approved by South Cambridgeshire District Council's planning committee, subject to secretary of state consideration.

The plan, which will be part of the wider proposals for a new town at Waterbeach, proposed moving the station to land between Cody Road and the railway, north of the village.

The new station will have two platforms, with two bridges, a car park, cycle parking, bus stops and a taxi rank.

Access to the new station will be from Cody Road. The application also proposed resurfacing the southern section of Bannold Drive and traffic calming measures on both Cody Road and Way Lane.

Waterbeach Parish Council objected to the proposal while concerns were raised by Cottenham Parish Council, who felt that the larger car park would encourage more people to drive to the station.

The application was discussed by the planning committee on Wednesday (September 12) and was approved, subject to secretary of state consideration.
