Works by leading British sculptor on display at Trinity Hall
A series of stone sculptures by one of Britain’s leading sculptors have taken up residence in Trinity Hall.
The works by Stephen Cox vary in size, with monumental works placed in the 14th-century college’s courts and gardens, and smaller works inside its historic buildings.
The sculptor’s work is known worldwide, with inspiration drawn from around the globe. His most famous exhibitions were at MOMA New York and the National Gallery, London.
The University of Cambridge college said: “The artist is drawn to stones that have been set apart due to their rarity, hardness, colour and symbolism; seeking them out wherever they may be.
“He worked stone in age-old methods in Mahabalipuram, India and took expeditions to the Eastern Mountains of Egypt.”
The public will be able to visit the exhibition throughout the year during college opening times and as part of specific festivals like the alumni festival and Open Cambridge. The works are on show from August 2022 until June 2023. Admission is free at designated opening times.
