Ade Azeez swaps Cambridge United for Newport County
Ade Azeez is on his way out of Cambridge United.
The 25-year-old striker has made a permanent move to fellow Sky Bet League Two side Newport County for an undisclosed fee, subject to FA, EFL and international clearance
Azeez joined the U’s from Partick Thistle in July 2017, but only managed eight goals from 22 starts and 26 substitute appearances. He spent four months on loan at Dover at the end of last season.
U's head of football Ben Strang said: "Ade has been a terrific professional and shown an excellent level of commitment in his time with us.
"He is keen to play more regularly and this move provides him with the opportunity to do so.
"Ade has always been a popular member of the squad and leaves with our very best wishes."
Head coach Colin Calderwood said: “With Alex Jones coming in, and (Rushian) Hepburn-Murphy and Jabo (Ibehre), his time was really on the bench.
“With a view to maybe what happens next year a little bit, it’s really in fairness.
“We couldn’t afford to have a squad that was bigger so you’ve got to adjust and some people leaving gives us the funds that allows us to change the dynamics a bit and bring other people in which we hope has an immediate impact.
“But we also look towards the ones coming in with a view to next year as well - that’s what I’m really interested in.”
