New appointment at the U's

Former Hills Road student Ben Szreter has been appointed as the new chief executive officer of the Cambridge United Community Trust.

Raised in Cambridge, Szreter studied at Parkside Community College and Hills Road Sixth Form College, before reading history at Oxford University.

He graduated with a first-class degree before achieving a master's degree with distinction in economic and social history.

Graham Daniels, the Cambridge United Community Trust chairman, said:"We are delighted to appoint Ben Szreter as the new CEO of our community trust.

"It may appear surprising that we are replacing his predecessor Danny Kerrigan, a Cambridge graduate, with an Oxford man but we rest assured that as a young man Ben studied at Parkside Community College and Hills Road Sixth Form College.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank Danny for his terrific work in developing the Trust's role in our community and look forward to working with Ben as he continues to facilitate Cambridge United's role with our partner companies and stakeholders in making our city a better place for all its residents."

Szreter has also gained valuable experience in several internships, and most recently he spent three months in Myanmar as part of an internship with the British Chamber of Commerce.

Kerrigan has taken up a new role with Cambridge United, and Cambridge United chief executive Jez George said:"Danny has done a brilliant job in developing the reputation of our community trust with various stakeholders and establishing our credibility to deliver a number of projects, through Premier League and EFL funding.

"Danny will now be able to contribute further by developing and overseeing a range of new commercial ventures that can provide further revenue streams within the club.

"Ben is the perfect choice to build on the excellent foundations that Danny has put in place. He is a really high calibre individual and we are absolutely delighted that he has accepted this role.

"This is the right moment to further strengthen and develop the club and community trust."

He added:"In Ben, we have been able to recruit someone who is highly motivated and perfectly equipped with all the necessary qualities, and with a connection to our city, to drive our community trust's ambition of making an even greater contribution to the whole of Cambridge in the future.

"We welcome him to the club and look forward to working with him."
