Cambridge United midfielder Jack Lankester ‘playing brilliantly at the moment’
Cambridge United head coach Mark Bonner has praised the recent performances that Jack Lankester has produced.
The attack-minded midfielder, who signed a new deal with the U’s in January, has 19 Sky Bet League One starts to his name this term.
However, such has been the 23-year-old’s growing influence within the team in recent weeks, Bonner has included Lankester in the starting line-up in each of United’s last 10 fixtures.
And he continued his impressive form yesterday afternoon by opening the scoring early on in the 2-1 victory against Fleetwood Town with a curling left footed effort from the edge of the penalty area.
“What a goal. I think he’s playing brilliantly at the moment,” said Bonner.
“We know we’ve got a good player there (and) that’s why it was going to take him time to get going, take him time to get a run of games, take him time to get fit where we need him, take time to understand how we play and that’s why we extended his contract. We’re delighted to have him and we think he can be a match winner for us.
“He played really well again today and also the goal was brilliant. It’s good build up from us but he’s got a lot to do once he gets in that position, but he’s got the quality to do it.”
Lankester joined United in the summer of 2021 for an undisclosed fee from fellow League One side Ipswich Town.
