One score not enough on the road

Cambridge earned a losing bonus point as they were beaten 12-7 at Old Elthamians in National League One.

Joe Carlisle kicked Old Elthamians in front but Cambridge had gained the upper hand by half time.

A hacked ball through led to full-back Mike Ayrton kicking on to touch down, and Ben Penfold landed the conversion.

Three second-half penalties from Carlisle led to Old Elthamians going in front.

And despite Cambridge launching a ferocious assault on the hosts’ line in the closing stages, they were withheld by some fierce defence.

Cambridge are back in action this weekend at Volac Park, when they are due to host Plymouth Albion.
