Cambridge Parnells GAA finished their Hertfordshire Senior Football League with a 22-6 win over Glen Rovers GAA Watford.

It was a free-scoring first half which put Cambridge out of sight on the scoreboard.

A breakneck start saw full-forward Robbie Fitzpatrick bundle home a goal inside the first 60 seconds and that was followed by Luke Duffy squeezing over a point.

Conor O’Reilly made a surging run and finish to increase the lead to seven, and he added another point from the following attack.

Benny Morgan curled over a point, and there were then further scores from Cormac Breen, Barry Daly and Barry Grogan after intricate attacking play.

A final double salvo before half time put the game to bed, with Conor Egan blasting a shot into the top corner before O’Reilly rounded the keeper for his second three-pointer to make it 18-0.

Glen Rovers got a first point followed by a goal from long range, and two further points reduced the deficit to 12.

Breen slammed home a fifth Parnells’ goal after a spot-kick had been saved, and despite Fitzpatrick being given his marching orders for dissent, substitute Eoin Walsh popped over a free to seal the
1-3 (6) – 5-7 (22) victory.

Player-manager John Hickey said: “It’s great to get another win on the board and a big score but there’s plenty of room for improvement.

“We’re going to work very hard now in training over the next few months and I believe we can make a real impact in the Championship.”

The Parnells’ attention now switches to the Hertfordshire Senior Football Championship, which runs from July to September.
